Yes—it is an e.l.f. haul! But everything pictured here, purchased during the recent online sale (50% or more off) was under $30 total and shipping was free. Even though the line is inexpensive, I have always found the products to be high quality. I have very sensitive skin, and e.l.f. is one of the brands that has never bothered me.
The company has sales frequently, so be sure to sign up for email alerts at the e.l.f. company site: http://go.magik.ly/ml/5bpq/
For this review I am focusing on the blush, highlight, bronzer, and contour products. I will review the others in the future when I have experimented with them more.
I enjoy using all of these products and will continue to use them throughout the summer. I broke the review down into three categories:
GOOD—If you never tried the brand before and you picked up these products, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
BETTER—Products that will make it into your daily makeup routine.
BEST—Products that are hard to live without!
And remember–these are my opinions. You may have a different skin type or prefer different colors or a different formula, and that’s okay! If you have a product you would like to recommend, please share it down below in the comments. Let’s keep the conversation going.
e.l.f. Bronzer Palette
Based on a recommendation from a friend, I purchased the Deep Dark Bronzer Palette. However, with my skin tone (very light) I think I will get the Light/Medium in the future.
The colors are evenly mixed with matte and shimmer. Even though they are highly pigmented, I found the powder very easy to work with and to blend. I tried using the palette as an eye shadow quad, and this works even better than using it as bronzer for me. However, if you have a darker complexion or a summer tan, it should look stunning as a bronzer.
e.l.f. Baked Highlighter in Blush Gems
A lot of people consider this to be a must-have highlighter. According to the e.l.f. web site, the product is infused with Vitamin E, jojoba, rose hip, sunflower, apricot, and grape oils to moisturize the skin. It contains a fair amount of shimmer and provides a strong highlight. I think it will look very nice for a special occasion when you want to sparkle!
e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Blush and Bronzer in Bronzed Pink Beige
This duo starts out as a cream-like texture and then shifts into a powder-like finish. According to the e.l.f. web site, it is infused with purified water and vitamin E to hydrate the skin and create a dewy finish. This applies well with a stipple brush.
Because of the unique formula, there is no fall-out with the blush or the bronzer. I consider that a plus!
e.l.f Beautifully Bare Blush in Rose Royalty
The Beautifully Bare line is designed to be a “barely there” look that is nice for everyday use. These products are also a cream-to-powder type finish. This looks fresh and pretty on the face, although it is so highly pigmented that you need to blend it carefully. It applies well with a stipple brush.
e.l.f Beautifully Bare Blush in Peach Perfection
This is that peach color that many brands seem obsessed with recently. (This does not smell like peaches!) It has a subtle golden shimmer and is easier to blend than the Rose Royalty color. It applies well with a stipple brush.
e.l.f. Sunkissed Glow Bronzer
This is a warm, shimmery bronzer that meshes well with the overall texture of the skin. The powder is smooth and it blends easily, giving the impression that you have spent some time outside and have been “kissed” by the sun.
e.l.f. Contour Palette
Every time I tried this product I was impressed by how easy it was to apply, how long it stayed on, and how nice it looked. The texture of the powders is so soft and the colors work well together. The lightest color has a small bit of shimmer. The other three are matte.
People don’t necessarily purchase items for the packaging, but e.l.f. put a lot of thought into the design. It is ideal for daily use and/or travel. The palette has a large mirror included and the pans can be removed if you want to mix-and-match with another palette.
e.l.f. Illuminating Palette
This is an amazing product for those with light/fair skin and is my favorite purchase from the haul. This is not a simple highlighter pallet. Each color can be used in different areas to make the whole face glow. The colors are subtle and don’t contain glitter, which makes it a different feel than a regular “high-beam” highlighter. The powder has a nice, soft, luxurious texture and looks lighter on the skin than the e.l.f. Contour Palette.
The quad would work well as an eye shadow palette, blush, face powder, contour, and finishing power. If you are traveling and limited on space, is an all-in-one style pallet that you can just grab and go.
What new drugstore makeup products do you like? If you have any of the items in the e.l.f. line, let me know what you think in the comments below. If you have a suggestion about what I should try for my next “Buy It and Try It,” let me know that too!

Praise for Heart & Mind:
“The author has managed to weave an intricate web about being true to yourself. One shouldn’t be guided or led by others. Above all, feel the magic in your own heart. As the fairy godmother believes sometimes it is best not to mess with destiny.” –Chief, USN Ret…VT Town—a Top 500 Reviewer on Amazon.com
Praise for The World In Front of Me:
“Picked up this short story because I noted it was previously published in Penumbra, which was a pretty high quality publication. And this story lived up to my expectations for a professional quality piece.
The story’s main idea reminded me a lot of the Lakeside community in Neil Gaimon’s American Gods, but I won’t say anymore about that for fear of giving away spoilers. But fans of Gaimon should really enjoy this story. Fans of strong women who make tough choices should enjoy this as well”—KSluss—Review on Amazon.com
Praise for Going Home:
“This is an excellent short story that is full of surprises for the reader. Martial law is about to be imposed in the colony.
A secret room, trips on a train and a clandestine meeting are all part of this superb short story.
Most highly recommended”—Off Grid . . . And Loving It—a Top 500 Reviewer on Amazon.com
Praise for Wonderland:
“The writing is beautiful, the characters are complex and thoroughly developed and the story is fascinating. All of it together creates a world you don’t want to leave when the book ends. I am so glad I discovered this author and I cannot wait for her next book”—Mary—Review on Amazon.com
