Battle of the Bum Bum Creams

Battle of the Bum Bum Creams

I first encountered the brand Sol de Janeiro after seeing it in multiple YouTube videos late last year. I purchased the original BRAZILIAN BUM BUM CREAM and have subsequently repurchased it several times.

IMG_1126Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is infused with Guaraná, a native Amazonian plant whose fruit contains one of the most potent forms of caffeine on the planet. It has a light scent, which is important to me. I don’t like heavily-scented creams or products because they could aggravate my allergies.

But this scent! I’m not sure if the aroma comes from the Guaraná, Cupuaçu Butter, Açaí, Coconut Oil, or pistachio (or more likely a blend of all of the ingredients) but it is fantastic. Imagine a mixture of pistachio, almond, jasmine, vanilla, and salted caramel. Mmmmmm …

Formulated Without: Phthalates, Parabens, Animal By-Products, Propylene Glycol, Synthetic Colors, Pegs, Petrolatum

The Bum Bum Cream has a light shimmer when applied. It leaves my skin feeling soft and deeply nourished. It absorbs quickly and does not leave a “greasy” feel.

fullsizeoutput_32dThe second product I have tried from Sol de Janeiro is the AÇAÍ BODY POWER CREAM. I received it as an add-on with my FabFitFun box. Açaí Oil, which also appears in the original Bum Bum Cream, is a super potent anti-oxidant. On their website, Sol de Janeiro explains that it actively fights free radicals, leaving skin supple. The cream contains Cupuaçu Butter and Coconut Oil. It is lightly scented with Açaí fragrance.

Formulated Without: Phthalates, Parabens, Animal By-Products, Propylene Glycol, Synthetic Colors, Pegs, Petrolatum

The Açaí Body Power Cream also has a light, peach shimmer when applied. It leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished. It absorbs quickly and does not leave a “greasy” feel.

The scent is the issue with me. The fragrance is very light and does not bother my allergies, but it doesn’t appeal to me. After application it smells like a tomato plant. Not a tomato, but the smell the actual plant gives off when it is growing. As a gardener I like this scent, but not on my skin.

I will be using up the remainder of the product, but I don’t think I will be repurchasing.

Have you tried any products from Sol de Janeiro? Let me know in the comments below.

Enjoy a brief glimpse into my new novel, Starter Zone, coming September 25!

When hydrologists inscribe the consciousness of a human mind onto a single drop of water, a Revelation sweeps the land. The wealthy race to upload their minds into self-contained virtual realities nicknamed Aquariums. In these containers people achieve every hope, dream, and desire. But governments wage war for control of the technology. Terrorist attacks cause massive destruction. The Aquariums fail. Inscribed human minds leech into the water cycle, wreaking havoc.

Street gangs rule the cities in the three years since the fall of civilization. Sixteen-year-old Cami and her younger sister Alby struggle to survive. Every drop of untreated water puts their lives in peril. Caught and imprisoned by soldiers who plan to sell them into slavery, Cami will do anything to escape and rescue her sister. Even if it means leaving the real word for a life in the realms, a new game-like reality created by the hydrologists for the chosen few.

But life in the realms isn’t as simple as it seems. Magic, combat, gear scores, quests, and dungeons are all puzzles to be solved as the sisters navigate their new surroundings. And they encounter more dangerous enemies than any they faced in the real world.

Time to play the game.
