Recently I tried the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It is formulated with goji berry and haloxyl, which Maybelline explains helps to erase the appearance of dark circles and fine lines while visibly diminishing the appearance of puffiness around the eyes.
The directions on the product are as follows:
Step 1. Twist collar of the applicator until the concealer is visible on the sponge (may take some turns on first use).
Step 2. Apply concealer to the under-eye area and blend.
This is what it looks like:
I applied the product for the first time using the included sponge-tip applicator, and it did not go well. The sponge left a “fuzzy” imprint in the product under my eyes. It was actually bad enough that I could not smooth it out with a makeup sponge blender and ended up washing the product off of my face.
After reapplying my eye cream, I improvised and removed the sponge tip. It was not difficult to remove. I used a dampened ELF beauty blender to apply.
The formula of the product is very nice. It has a lighter, more see-through coverage than my usual TARTE concealer. Of course this Maybelline product is a liquid rather than a cream, so it would be lighter coverage. I have used this several times during the last 2 weeks and I am satisfied with it as an under-eye concealer. I will continue to use it until it is gone.
I am using the sponge tip as an additional cap to protect the tube. (On a side-note, the sponge is very hard to clean.) The concealer has a clear dome-shaped cap, but I worry about the product drying out without the sponge.
It is not a problem when sitting on my vanity, but I would be worried about traveling with it due to spillage. If I needed to bring it on a trip, I would probably put it in a separate plastic zip-lock bag before putting it in my make-up bag.
Right now the product is on sale for $5.99 at stores like Target. I think it is worth the price if you need a new concealer and if you do not mind taking off the sponge-tip applicator.
Would I repurchase? I’m not sure. It works well as a concealer. It doesn’t irritate my skin. I can blend it with the ELF beauty blender. I will have to see if it dries out faster because I removed the sponge in order to make a full determination.
