Marc Jacobs The Wild One Eye-Conic Eyeshadow Palette Review

Wishing you a Happy New Year full of love, light and laughter!

Tis the season for the holiday gift set bonanza, not only at stores like Sephora, Ulta, and Nordstrom, but also Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and Target.  These items are available now and will most likely be sold out before the first snowflake falls. So each Friday I will be featuring holiday sets on my blog. I will let you know where I bought the items and the purchase price. (And if there are any deals!) There will be items for every budget level and I will include a product review. Be sure to check back each Friday!

First–let me say that I splurged on this palette. Normally I save my spurges for skin care, but this collection caught my attention and would not let go. It is $99 at Sephora.

This is a limited-edition palette released for the holidays. This set contains 20 eyeshadows. The shadows are listed in 5 “quads” designed to work together. From the top right going down the colors are as follows:

  • Paper Tiger, Nest Egg, Golden Fleece, Foxy!
  • Nine Lives, Lion’s Share, Cat Fight, Free Bird
  • Sheepish, Chameleon, Dog & Pony, Bearish
  • Early Bird, Hen Party, Bull’s Eye, Cat Call
  • White Elephant, Funny Bunny, Pea-cocky, Crow’s Nest

The shadows DO NOT contain Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates.

I have played around with this palette for several days now. The matte shadows are soft, pigmented, and easily blend-able except for Pea-cocky. (That shade is patchy on me. I used different brushes and applied both with and without eye primer. I couldn’t make it work, but I’m not a PMUA, just an enthusiastic amateur.) The shimmer shades are gorgeous and easy to use. The sequin and lamé shades are from a new formula developed by Marc Jacobs. All of the colors are designed to compliment his fashion line.

The first day the palette arrived I managed to take photos before playing with the colors. (It was hard waiting to dip-in and play, but I held back just for my readers!) I was particularly interested in Chameleon, which is a marvelous duo-chrome plum/copper color. I tapped it on my lids using my fingers, because I couldn’t wait to get my brushes, and tapped Sheepish under my brows for a little highlight. The colors blended so well that it looked like I had spent 20 minutes doing my eye makeup rather than a few seconds. If I am in a hurry, this will be my go-to palette!

I did a full look the next day with Sheepish, Chameleon, Dog & Pony, and Bearish. I used synthetic brushes–my usual–and the colors blended so well that it actually cut the amount of time I spend on my eyes in half. I used my regular Tarte CC eye primer and the colors lasted all day.

I tried the colors Early Bird, Hen Party, Bull’s Eye, and Cat Call the next day.  I used both my regular Tarte CC eye primer and a bit of MAC Fix Plus because of the shimmer/glitter shades. (I did not spray the brushes. I used the Fix Plus as an all-over setting spray.) Hen Party had a bit of fall-out after I first applied it on my lids, but that was the extent of it. All of the colors lasted throughout the day and I did not end up with a glitter “halo” on my cheeks and under-eye area.

I went through each quad in a similar fashion, trying them out throughout the day. They are all highly pigmented and do not fade. At this point I have started mixing-and-matching to play with other looks. They all work together and blend wonderfully (except for Pea-cocky.)

Is it worth the “splurge?” That depends upon your situation. If you purchase the palette, I don’t think you will be disappointed in the way the shadows work, how they blend, the quality, and the colors. They are fantastic in every sense of the word. But it is a luxury brand and, with the exception of the lamé shades, you can find the colors in other palettes. The quality and the formula will differ, but you have to “do you” and choose what’s right for your life and pocketbook.

Am I happy I bought it? Yes! It is far better quality than any other holiday eyeshadow palette I have ever purchased and I cannot wait to try out more looks.

Disclaimer: This is not sponsored. I purchased all of the products discussed.

Have you purchased a “holiday” palette this year? Let us know what you think about it in the comments below.

While you put on makeup, why not listen to a good book? Starter Zone, the first book of my new YA/LitRPG series, The Revelation Chronicles, is now available on Audible!

When hydrologists inscribe the consciousness of a human mind onto a single drop of water, a Revelation sweeps the land. The wealthy race to upload their minds into self-contained virtual realities nicknamed Aquariums. In these containers people achieve every hope, dream, and desire. But governments wage war for control of the technology. Terrorist attacks cause massive destruction. The Aquariums fail. Inscribed human minds leech into the water cycle, wreaking havoc.

Street gangs rule the cities in the three years since the fall of civilization. Sixteen-year-old Cami and her younger sister Alby struggle to survive. Every drop of untreated water puts their lives in peril. Caught and imprisoned by soldiers who plan to sell them into slavery, Cami will do anything to escape and rescue her sister. Even if it means leaving the real word for a life in the realms, a new game-like reality created by the hydrologists for the chosen few.

But life in the realms isn’t as simple as it seems. Magic, combat, gear scores, quests, and dungeons are all puzzles to be solved as the sisters navigate their new surroundings. And they encounter more dangerous enemies than any they faced in the real world.

Time to play the game.

  1. This looks (and sounds) beautiful! Unfortunately I could never spend this much on a palette being an unemployed upper secondary school student… Oh well, a girl can always dream. I haven’t gotten any holiday palette yet this year, but I got my eye on the Urban Decay Heavy Metals Metallic Eyeshadow Palette and the Too Faced Boss Lady Beauty Agenda Kit.

    1. Those caught my eye too, but I am limiting myself to one this year. I may get one of the Too Faced pallets for a friend’s gift. I think she would like the smaller one better–the Ulta exclusive–because it will be easier for travel.
Please share if you get either and let us know how you like your purchase!
